Andreja Ogrinec

My name is Andreja Ogrinec. I was born in 1971 In Postojna (Slovenia). My interest in art started when I was 9 years old, with a love for music, I started playing the French horn and I still play it today. I moved to Koprivnica (Croatia) in 1991 where I started a family.

I started painting eggs in 1995. This artistic adventure began on small plain eggs that were discarded. At the farm where I worked, I collected eggs so that they would not be dumped and destroyed. I started making Easter eggs with the help of my young children when we were decorating for the holidays and Easter. And so, the story begins: I am an artist myself, before making Easter eggs I was interested in glass (stained glass) and so I began to make and learn about it. I made Tiffany lamps, mirrors, candlesticks, and other techniques, such as stained-glass imitation with paint and contour paste. This is how I came up with the technique I apply to eggs. Throughout this process, I was most fascinated by my curiosity, so I decided to indulge in exploring the unknown.

For painting, I use only the shells of hens, goose, quail, and duck eggs. I paint them in a special process with enamel lacquer or glass, and the contour patterns are formed with pastes, which are mainly intended for painting on glass. I create directly, without preliminary sketches or pre-drafted designs.

Egg art is a playroom where the mind, imagination, curiosity merge with the eyes and hands trying to make dreams come true in their game. Striving for this realization of myself through the round world of eggs, where there is neither a beginning nor an end, I can show you how interesting it can look in the end.

Every egg is special because they are unique.
